This notice is issued by the Financial Supervision Commission (“the Commission”) in accordance with the powers conferred upon it under Section 22 of the Financial Supervision Act 1988.

Data Protection Enforcement Agency

The Commission has been made aware of correspondence originating from the 'Data Protection Enforcement Agency.' The correspondence claims that the organisation operates from Hilton House, 71-73 Chapel St, Manchester, England, M3 5BZ.

The text of the correspondence requests the receiver to complete and return a detailed data protection registration form and payment of a registration fee.

The UK Information Commissioner has stressed that there is no connection between the named organisation and themselves. The Commissioner advises those approached in this way not to make any payment and to notify the police.

The Commission would strongly recommend persons receiving correspondence purporting to originate from the Data Protection Enforcement Agency to refrain from responding, bearing in mind the contents of this Public Notice.

The UK Information Commissioner has issued a warning about false collectors of data protection fees and information. The warning provides a number of addresses that have no connection to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Organisations who wish to complain about correspondence received from these businesses, should contact the Office of Fair Trading in the Isle of Man or their local Trading Standards Office in the UK.
